Belinda Carlisle is an American singer. She is best known as the lead vocalist of the female band Go-Go's. She is also a successful solo artist with the hits Mad About You, Heaven Is a Place on Earth and Circle in the Sand.Belinda Jo Kerzcheski was born on August 17, 1958 in Hollywood, California to Walt and Joanne. She has three brothers and three sisters. After their father left them, her mother and stepfather raised them. As a child, Belinda would play sports with boys in her neighborhood and hop around in her cheerleading outfit. After graduating from high school, Belinda left home to make it on her own in Hollywood. Out there, she joined a small punk band Germs. However, she quit when she became ill but continued as its manager. It was then that she met Jane Wiedlin and together they decided to form a band. In 1978, they formed Go-Go's with Belinda as vocalist, Jane as rhythm guitarist, Charlotte Caffey as lead guitarist, Kathy Valentine as bassist, and Gina Schock as drummer. Their debut album Beauty and the Beat became a huge hit and was certified double platinum. It included the hits We Got the Beat and Our Lips Are Sealed. Their other albums, Vacation and Talk Show were also popular but not as much as the first. In 1985, the band broke up and the next year, Belinda released her debut solo album, Belinda. It included the hit Mad About You.In 1987, Belinda came up with another wonderful album, Heaven On Earth that included the hits Heaven Is A Place On Earth, Circle In The Sand, and I Get Weak. In 1989, Belinda released the album Runaway Horses with the hits Leave a Light On and Summer Rain. Belinda next went on to release the albums Live Your Life Be Free (1991) and Real (1993). These albums were however not that successful. In 1997, Belinda released the album A Woman & A Man with the hits In Too Deep and Always Breaking My Heart. The album featuring Susanna Hoffs and Brian Wilson was a hit in the UK but not that much of a seller in the US.Belinda has also ventured into films like Swing Shift starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell (1984) and She's Having a Baby (1988). She has also appeared on television in an episode of the series Shooting Stars. Meanwhile in 1990, Belinda reunited with Go-Go's to do a concert for the Environmental Protection Initiative. Since then, they have continued playing and touring together occasionally. In 2001, at the age of 42, Belinda posed nude for Playboy magazine.On the personal front, Belinda married actor/producer Morgan Mason. The couple has a son, James Duke Mason.
